In the early 1990s, Disney considered building an aquatic theme park in Long Beach as a ``second gate'' to be operated with Disneyland. But after some community resistance, the company opted instead to build a California Adventure expansion in the Disneyland parking lot scheduled to open in 2000.

Disney, which already receives royalties from Tokyo Disneyland, will use its Glendale-based Imagineering to design and install the new theme park. Terms of licensing agreement for DisneySea were not disclosed.
