``I decided to do this since it's cold in the Antelope Valley and people that don't have jackets and stuff, they need them, so I told my mom and she said I could do it,'' said Lindsey.

Lindsey's mother, Darlene Jordan, expected her daughter to collect maybe 200 jackets.

``Being the first year ... we didn't know we were going to get this kind of response. ... People were buying things from the mall and donating things there. I was just amazed a·maze

She plans on having it all sorted and distributed by the beginning of next week to Antelope Valley charities.

`We even got jeans, mostly winter clothes. But we weren't going to turn anybody down who wanted to donate. We took anything anyone wanted to donate,'' Darlene Jordan said.

``It makes me feel good that people in the Antelope Valley would donate stuff to give to people and I just feel really good that I did this,'' said Lindsey.

It evidently made the donors feel good also. Darlene was especially touched by an 8- or 9-year-old boy who donated his own jacket.

``There was this little boy and his parents had two jackets they were going to donate, so they gave the two jackets and then the little boy took off his jacket and he gave it too,'' recalled Darlene.

Three sisters sang a song as part of the entertainment and after the song one girl took off her jacket and donated it to the drive.

Winter Warmth got a boost from a donation of unclaimed lost and found clothing from the Palmdale School District The Palmdale School District is a school district that serves a major part of the city of Palmdale, California (USA).

The Palmdale School District was first formed in 1888. Approximately 28,000 students are enrolled in the Palmdale School District.

The clothes will be donated to the Children's Center of the Antelope Valley, Valley Child Guidance Clinic, The Domestic Violence Shelter, The Mental Health Association, the Wilsona Healthy Start Program and the Homeless Shelter Homeless shelters are temporary residences for homeless people. Usually located in urban neighborhoods, they are similar to emergency shelters. The primary difference is that homeless shelters are usually open to anyone, without regard to the reason for need. .

Lindsey got the idea for the jacket drive from Kids with a Cause, a charity organization of celebrity kids who donate their free time to children who are abused, abandoned or neglected. Lindsey, who is the 2002 Little Miss Palmdale, has appeared in Disneyland and toy commercials and has her own agent.

``They did this a couple years ago,'' said Lindsey. ``And so it's cold in the Antelope Valley, I said why not do it for my community.''

``She loves doing this stuff,'' said Darlene Jordan.
