The list was put out by the American Podiatric Medical Association to encourage American city dwellers "to get out and walk in an effort to keep their feet and bodies fit." And, no doubt, to give us all a good reason to see our neighborhood podiatrists. "One of the reasons why Eugene ranked fairly high is because of the active lifestyles that the residents lead," said Amie Haer, a cheerful spokeswoman for the APMA. "And they get to work by walking or taking public transportation." She hadn't heard about the bus strike. "Maybe even more people are walking now," she said brightly.
