WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Great Wolf Lodge, the new indoor waterpark resort in Williamsburg, Va., was host today to local, county and state officials, dignitaries and area business owners in a grand opening celebration as Virginia's premier indoor waterpark resort. The resort officially opened March 23, 2005 -- just in time for a busy spring break season.

Inside, customers enjoyed the indoor waterpark, while outside, nearly 500 invited guests gathered under the porte-cochere for a grand opening gala presentation including Yorktown Fife and Drum, National Color Guard and Drill Team, and the presentation of Great Wolf Lodge's official First Family. A special entrance via helicopter introduced the attendees to the resort's official mascot, Wiley the Wolf.

The first-class, full-service resort welcomes travelers and vacationers, families and business clientele to enjoy the first-class amenities of Virginia's premier indoor waterpark resort. The northwoods-themed destination includes: 301 family-sized suites, a 66,000 square-foot indoor entertainment area featuring Bear Track Landing waterpark; Northern Lights Arcade; Elements - an Aveda(R) Concept Spa, and Cub Club children's activity center. The resort also features multiple dining selections including The Loose Moose Cottage gourmet food court, Camp Critter Bar & Grille, Pizza Hut Express, homemade fudge and treats from Bear Claw Cafe and Spirit Island Snack Shop.

The resort's northwoods decor features numerous authentic natural accents and artifacts that celebrate the great outdoors. Located in the Grand Lobby, the Great Clock Tower comes to life three times daily entertaining guests of all ages through animation and song. Following the 8 o'clock show, children gathered at the clock tower will switch their focus to storytime by the fireplace.

The colossal indoor waterpark maintains a balmy 84-degrees temperature. River Canyon Run, one of eight waterslides, twists up to four riders on toboggan-style tubes more than 450 feet throughout the waterpark. A giant indoor wave pool is just one of six pools, submerging guests in nearly 300,000 gallons of water. The four-story Fort Mackenzie has over 60 interactive geysers and sprays. Atop the 48-foot structure is the Great Wolf Lodge signature "tipping bucket," filling with water every few minutes, tipping at the sound of a bell, and drenching everyone gathered below with nearly 1,000 gallons of water.
