But this year is different. ``I just woke up. I had to do it myself, no one else could make that decision for me.'' When the season concluded, he realized things needed to change and set goals to improve himself. Harling was determined to make his senior year an important one. He said it was a lot of hard work, and one of the lessons learned was not to give up on himself. ``I think it was immaturity im·ma·ture adj. 1. Not fully grown or developed. See Synonyms at young. 2. Marked by or suggesting a lack of normal maturity: silly, immature behavior. ,'' Valencia coach Kevin Kornegay said. ``A lot of bad things were going on in his life, and maybe it was the consequences that he got tired of getting in trouble, but he changed. ``I think volleyball played a role in how he turned everything around. He's very successful with volleyball, and I think it added to his positive selmage, confidence and attitude. He's been a big part of our success and has proven himself out there.'' This season, Harling made a difference on the team in more ways then one. He's become one of the Vikings' biggest weapons. He leads the team in three statistical categories. At midseason, Harling has 95 kills and 56 digs. He is the team's best passer with a serve-receive percentage of 90. He's rarely substituted out of the rotation and touches the ball more than any other passer on the team. His consistency in the back row is critical to igniting the offense. But the biggest impact has been his leadership. Harling worked hard during the offseason, and it shows on the court. One of his best performances was against Hart, when he had 14 kills and four blocks. Harling's performance did not go unnoticed. He was named MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. He's developed into the team's emotional leader, raising the intensity when he's on the court. ``Performance-wise, he's just a lot more responsible and mature. He's become more of leader on the team,'' teammate and co-captain Sean Summers said. ``He's put volleyball above a lot of other things this year, and he's more dedicated to the team. I think it was all on him, and he decided that he wanted to do well this year. His hitting and passing are his strongest points. We're doing really well and couldn't have done this without him.''
