Soulful pop-rock outfit the Chris Greene Project believes in taking their music directly to the people -- which is why the band jumped at the chance to appear at Sherman Oaks Galleria Sherman Oaks Galleria is a shopping mall and business center located in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of Los Angeles, California at the corner of Ventura and Sepulveda Boulevards in the San Fernando Valley.

Locals colloquially refer to the mall simply as "the Galleria.

Greene, who sings, plays guitar and composes for his group, has been bubbling under for several years. His gigs at venues ranging from House of Blues House of Blues (HOB) is a chain of music halls and restaurants founded in 1992 by Hard Rock Cafe founder Isaac Tigrett and his friend and investor Dan Aykroyd. It is a home for live music and southern-inspired cuisine, whose clubs celebrate African-American culture, specifically  to the Universal Bar & Grill draw a diverse crowd that appreciates well-crafted original songs that suggest the melodic harmonies of Dave Matthews

``The town has a very healthy music scene, but you always have to be on top of your game,'' said Greene, 27, who grew up in West Hills and began playing music in the marching band Noun 1. marching band - a band that marches (as in a parade) and plays music at the same time

The Chris Greene Project appears July 15 as part of the free summer concert series at Sherman Oaks Galleria that runs through Sept. 2. Like most musicians who aren't yet raking it in, ex-bartender Greene works a day job, as a real estate appraiser A person selected or appointed by a competent authority or an interested party to evaluate the financial worth of property.

, and is currently finishing his group's new CD, produced by session guitarist David Williams (who has recorded with Michael Jackson, Madonna and Bryan Ferry, among others). Williams, who plans to appear with the five-member Greene Project next month at the Galleria, calls the singer-guitarist his ``protege.''

Greene is especially looking forward to the date. ``That's the essence of music -- to play in the daytime, outdoors, on a weekend, with a festival atmosphere. And it's free,'' he said. ``That's the ideal, perfect show.''
