``Gilbert likes the exposure,'' Arenas Sr. said. ``Canoga Park is playing Dominguez in the first round, and that would be a good start.''

Grant coach Howard Levine reportedly said that if Arenas plays for another school, he is no longer welcome back. Arenas said on Thursday he was not going to play for another team.

So what gives?

``Gilbert changes his mind every day,'' Arenas Sr. said. ``That's just the way he is.''

Simi Valley coach Dean Bradshaw said the best thing about the tournament is an opportunity to test prospects in game situations. He plans a long look at upstarts Shaun Michel and Kurt Mjoen.

``We should be OK, but we don't want to get too hung up on what happens during the summer,'' Bradshaw said.
