A TOP German cancer specialist said the new Northern Cancer for Cancer Care (NCCC) is "renowned in Europe".

He was one of more than 100 leading international cancer specialists who flocked to the new, worldclass NCCC at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle for a two-day conference. Dr Florian Sterzing is a radiation oncologist at University Hospital, Heidelberg and one of a number of experts who spoke at the event. He said: "The Northern Centre for Cancer Care is a great, modern centre and its research is renowned in Europe - attending this conference and seeing the facilities has been inspirational." Experts from across Europe gathered at the multidisciplinary event where they, along with local specialists based in Newcastle, discussed the latest radiotherapy techniques. Organiser Dr Sanjoy Chatterjee, consultant clinical oncologist at the NCCC, said: "As hosts of this conference we are delighted to have been able showcase the NCCC to fellow professionals from across the UK and Europe. "We are the only cancer centre in the UK with a full range of the latest radiotherapy equipment which is allowing us to treat previously untreatable cancers and, for the first time, more than one tumour at once."
