A TOAST TO THE FUTURE : PRESCHOOLS MARK WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD.

The sky was full of hot air Monday when dozens of children from the Family Connection kicked off Week of the Young Child by blowing bubbles bubbles

The Family Connection, like many other preschools in Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , gave youngsters a break from their daily routine, as they sent thousand of bubbles swirling under an early morning sun.

``This is our time to make everyone aware of what children need - a warm, safe, nurturing environment,'' said Sandra sandra (sänˑ·dr),

 Englen, bubble-launch coordinator and director of the preschool. ``They are the future of America, and need to be taken care of at home, in school and the community.''

Sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) is the largest nonprofit association in the United States representing early childhood education teachers, experts, and advocates in center-based and family day care. , Week of the Young Child lasts through Friday.

Englen, an association member, said the event was first celebrated in 1971 to recognize that early childhood years set the tone for later learning. Also, these years shape how youngsters succeed in school and later in life.

``Our goal for the week is to issue a call to action to parents, teachers, business leaders and the public at large to get involved and help make the critical early years the best that they can for the leaders of our future - our children,'' Englen said.

Other preschools participating this week include Building Blocks Preschool, Simi Valley Covenant School, and Child Development Center of Simi Valley Hospital Simi Valley Hospital (SVH) is a Seventh-day Adventist hospital located located in Simi Valley, California. SVH is a member of Adventist Health. New Construction
Simi Valley Hospital is in the process of building a new wing to the hospital.

At the Family Connection, Monday's bubbles symbolized youth, said Cathy Reeves, a teacher at the preschool who helped organize the event. Reeves decided on bubbles after hearing about the idea at an association conference in Sacramento.

``I felt the bubbles were the best way to symbolize children,'' said Reeves. ``Plus, they don't pollute pol·lute
