For a few days the family checked the neighborhood, knocking on doors, in a futile search for clues to the owner. Four days after the big find, they turned the money over to Finn. There was never a question the Beatties would do the right thing, they said. The money would have been nice as the family settled into their new home, but it was far more important to teach Adam and his 6-year-old sister life lessons in honesty and responsibility, Rene said at the time.
