Since last year, Angel Harvest has been feeding the poor with surplus food from some of the biggest bashes in Tinseltown, including post-parties from the Grammy, Emmy and Blockbuster Music awards. Thirty-five chefs have been laboring for days over the Governors Ball menu that will feed the 1,650 celebrities attending tonight's ball. All told the culinary crew will dish out 19,000 hors d'oeuvres, 500 lobsters, 490 racks of lamb and 30 pounds of Beluga caviar Noun 1. beluga caviar - roe of beluga sturgeon usually from Russia; highly valued Acipenser huso, beluga, hausen, white sturgeon - valuable source of caviar and isinglass; found in Black and Caspian seas . Syd Ganis, vice president of the Academy Awards and chairman of the Governors Ball, said sharing the extras is a great idea. ``I find it ironic and wonderful. The less fortunate should benefit from the work of the masters,'' Ganis said. And for Nancy, a center patron who did not give her last name, it's great. ``I'll be the first one there,'' said Nancy, who will help unload the food from the Angel Harvest truck. ``This is high-class food. It makes us feel wonderful.'' Caroline McColl, executive director at the Downtown Women's Center, said every bit of food helps. ``We can take these fantasy foods into a practical meal to feed more people,'' McColl said. ``We can turn hors d'oeuvres into a macaroni macaroni: see pasta. and cheese casserole, or add vegetables to a pot roast and turn it into a big pot of soup.'' Palit started Angel Harvest in Los Angeles in 1996 and has since provided more than 250,000 meals for the needy in Los Angeles, Pasadena, Burbank and Glendale. Angel Harvest also operates in 130 cities in the United States, Asia, Canada and Europe distributing donated food from restaurants, grocers, coffee shops, and other providers to shelters, soup kitchens, and rehabilitation centers, Palit said. In Los Angeles, Angel Harvest has found its niche in working with the entertainment industry. ``Our offices are compliments of ABC ABC in full American Broadcasting Co. Major U.S. television network.
