A Sudden Green Clearing.

Norwegian choreographer Un-Magritt Nordseth, inspired by the raw natural surroundings of a Vogue magazine fashion photo shoot in the woods, united sensuality and nature in A Sudden Green Clearing (part of the No Way Norway Series at the Institute for Contemporary Art in London). Six performers clad in business suits and party dresses romped around, paying little attention to the forest that stood in peaceful contrast behind them.

The entertaining, yet lengthy, series of vignettes were physical and whimsical, all the while alluding to sexuality. For example, a pair of men tumbled roughly on the floor, slapping thighs and chests, sitting atop each other, and eventually wheezing to the point of orgasm. One man tenderly guided a woman blinded by a large hard hat, steering her away from flying limbs and rolling bodies. Crawling women squeezed between the legs of one who was standing and set her off balance.

In this era when a romantic escape involves a lavish hotel room and the forest belongs to the Boy Scouts, Nordseth cleverly revived sensuality in nature.
