 was today appointed manager of Newcastle Blue Star on a permanent basis.

The former Blyth Spartans and Newcastle Benfield Bay Plastics boss has been in charge of the side for the last four games following the departure of Tommy Cassidy.

He was initially brought in as coach less than a month ago, but was thrown in at the deep end when the club made the shock decision to seek resignation from the UniBond League Division One North.

The move precipitated Cassidy's decision to leave, and Baker, although still retaining the title of coach, was given the task of leading the team.

"Paul Baker is a well-respected manager in North East non-league footballing circles and knows the Arngrove Northern League, where we'll be playing next season, inside out," said director of football Bob Morton Bob Morton is also the name of a character in Robocop.

Bob Morton is an electrical engineer and Chairman/Executive Director of the Naturist Action Committee, an organization dedicated to defending the rights of naturists everywhere.

"Hopefully he is the man to revive the club's fortunes in the ANL ANL - Argonne National Laboratory .

"He has the right attitude, tremendous enthusiasm and a vision for the type of football he wants us to play, and we are delighted to have him on board on a permanent basis."

Baker said he is delighted to be back in the game after leaving Newcastle Benfield BP on Boxing Day.

He said: "At the time I decided to take a rest, but when Blue Star came along I couldn't turn down the chance.

"I'm honoured to be manager of such a big club."
