CRIQUETTE Head-Maarek does not send many runners on the trip across the Channel but those that make the journey are always well worth noting.

That comment certainly applies to Special Duty, who travels from Head-Maarek's Chantilly base in search of Group One glory in the Electrolux Cheveley Park Stakes.

The trainer boasts a good record in the race and traditionally only sends the pick of her fillies, with the likes of Ma Biche and Pas De Response featuring on the roll of honour.

Special Duty is certainly a classy filly, progressing from second in Listed company on her debut to win the Group Two Prix Robert Papin on her next start.

Stepped up to the highest level on her latest outing, she split leading 2000 Guineas contenders Arcano and Canford Cliffs in the Prix Morny.

Special Duty tried to make all that day and she just started to wander around a little before Arcano came with a late burst to deny her glory by a short neck in the final strides.

A repeat of that performance would certainly put Special Duty in the shake-up and it would be no surprise if she were to take this prize back to France.

A high-class renewal of the Shadwell Middle Park Stakes is in prospect, with each of the five runners boasting winning credentials.

The quintet are all pretty evenly matched on the ratings but preference is for Godolphin's Poet's Voice, an impressive winner of the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last time.

Saeed bin Suroor's son of Dubawi claimed a stylish all-the-way success which was even more creditable given the calibre of some of the runners in behind.

Admittedly Poet's Voice had found Elusive Pimpernel far too good when third in the Acomb at York, but that race looks to be some of the strongest juvenile form on offer this term and Godolphin's runner still seems to be on the upward curve.

Confront has disappointed a couple of times as favourite this term but he is worth another chance as he steps back into Pattern-race company in the Nayef Joel Stakes.
