Yarbrough wrote in his December 3, 1999, letter accompanying the gift: "This would have been 1814, I think, and James Madison would have been president when the British torched Washington.... I think that it is interesting that this set of books would be in the President's home only a year after their publication. I interpret this to mean that Madison had close relations with the Baptists because of his earlier dealings with them during the campaign in Orange Country, Virginia, when they convinced him to support a call for amending the proposed constitution ...
