A lifelong quilter, Pilkey has responded to disasters with her stitchery before, contributing to a memorial quilt after the East Coast terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Her work has been on exhibit in both museum exhibits and galleries as well as in her friends' homes. But this is the first time she's whip-stitched instant comfort for people in need.
