A STATEMENT FROM PROCTER & GAMBLE

CINCINNATI, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE: PG) issued the following statement today on its free product sampling program underway in the Greater Los Angeles area:
Effective today, we have decided to suspend our door-to-door sampling effort currently underway in several neighborhoods in Los Angeles to reevaluate the program and consumer attitudes about it.
This program was designed to responsibly and safely provide free samples of some of our popular new products to consumers. The product samples were delivered to homes and contained a range of products including facial tissue, laundry detergent and two over-the-counter medicines.
The two over-the counter medicine samples were single dose and were packaged in child-resistant packaging. The sample bag itself was heat sealed to make it easy to see any evidence of tampering. In addition, all directions and warnings were in Spanish and English.
The over-the-counter medicines in this sample are safe and effective when used as directed, but should consumers have questions they should call the Procter & Gamble 800 number, 800-283-4879.
