A SNEAK PEEK OF CITY FINAL.

Byline: ERIK BOAL Special to the Daily News

As much as Monday's matches were supposed to decide which boys' tennis teams advanced to the City Section final, it wound up turning into an advanced scouting scouting: see Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts.

Activities of various national and worldwide organizations for youth aimed at developing character, citizenship, and individual skills. Scouting began when Robert S.

With their semifinals clinched, the top-seeded Dolphins -- who prevailed 22-7 1/2 over No. 4 Taft of Woodland Hills -- and the second-seeded Highlanders, who defeated No. 3 Eagle Rock 23-6 1/2, used the final two hours to get a sneak peek at what they'd be facing Friday.

By the time the final sets had been played at Balboa Balboa, town (1990 pop. 2,751), Colón prov., in the former Panama Canal Zone, on the Gulf of Panama. The port for Panama City, Balboa was the administrative headquarters of the Panama Canal Zone. It was also the site of a U.S. navy base (closed 1999).  Sports Complex in Encino, even Eagle Rock and Taft were weighing in with their opinions on whether Palisades would capture its 26th title or if Granada Hills could finally win its first.

``I think it's going to be a war,'' said Taft's Justin Gold, who won two of the Toreadors' six singles sets.

``Palisades is probably the deepest team we've seen all season, but Granada Hills shouldn't be taken lightly. Granada Hills has the power, but Pali has the depth.''

Granada Hills (14-1) recorded 11 victories in singles -- with Arturo Perez winning twice the only player to win twice for Eagle Rock (15-2) -- and added eight more in doubles to reach the finals for the eighth time in 11 years.

``I think we're a little more top-heavy than (Palisades),'' said Granada Hills coach Simon Robertshaw, who received doubles sweeps from Jeremy Choo/Mark Lewin and Zach Katz/Dominic Plata.

``We'll be the underdog, but if we play our `A' game, I think we can win. If we play our `B' game, we'll lose.''

Said Palisades coach Bud Kling: ``When two teams are that close, it's as much about emotion as it is skill. As far as I'm concerned, it's a coin flip.''
