A SINGING HIPPO TRAINS TEACHERS ON pounds 2M COURSE; Councils slammed for 'wasting' cash.Byline: STEPHEN WHITE SCOTS councils were blasted yesterday for spending pounds 2million on a teacher "bonding" course. About 1,200 teachers have been on the six-day sessions this year, where exercises include singing with a cartoon hippo and making posters. They were sent by local councils who pay pounds 1,715 per teacher to attend the scheme run by Critical Skills Programme Ltd. But some teachers, MSPs, the Scottish Parent Teacher Council and Taxpayers' Alliance have slammed the course and said an extra 90 teachers could be hired for the money spent. One teacher said: "It's the worst training course I've been on. We made posters and had a singalong Noun 1. singalong - informal group singing of popular songs singsong singing, vocalizing - the act of singing vocal music with a hippopotamus hippopotamus, herbivorous, river-living mammal of tropical Africa. The large hippopotamus, Hippopotamus amphibius, has a short-legged, broad body with a tough gray or brown hide. ." Liz Smith Liz Smith may refer to:
Among the 12 councils taking part is North Ayrshire. Spokeswoman Carol Kirk said 400 teachers had attended, adding: "It's a long-term aspiration to train all our staff." Colin Weatherley at Critical Skills claimed the course could "revolutionise Scottish education". CAPTION(S): OPPOSITION Liz Smith |
