Roy Campanella (November 19, 1921 – June 26, 1993), nicknamed "Campy", was an American baseball player — primarily at the position of catcher — in the Negro Leagues and Major League Baseball. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. is severely injured in a car crash on an icy road in Long Island. After hitting a telephone pole, he's wedged beneath the car's dashboard for hours before being rescued. It left him paralyzed par·a·lyze

Jan. 28, 1984: Edmonton's Wayne Gretzky Noun 1. Wayne Gretzky - high-scoring Canadian ice-hockey player (born in 1961)
Gretzky scored a goal or had an assist in 51 straight games, but the Kings, the team for which he'd later play, figure a way to stop him. Or, he simply was unlucky.

Jan. 29, 1988: The Dodgers sign free-agent outfielder Kirk Gibson to a three-year deal.
