A River Rat Is Born.


Casey's parents introduced him to the sport when he was five. From then on, he was hooked. He began racing more and working with a coach. When he was eight, he made the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  National Cadet Team and became one of the youngest racers to make the Olympic develop mental squad.

Casey hopes to compete in the Olympics some day. To help reach his goal, he competes in more than twenty races each year. He also practices year-round. His parents made a short practice course in the creek that runs through their backyard. For more challenging runs, Casey's family drives to Bellefonte, Pennsylvania Bellefonte is a borough in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 6,395 at the 2000 census. "Casey has river water running through his veins," says his mom. If he keeps racing, he may someday wear an Olympic medal around his neck.

Do You Want to Canoe?

There are many canoe clubs around the country. These groups teach basic canoeing and racing. Don't worry if you don't have your own equipment. To help you get started, some clubs rent or lend canoes, life vests, and helmets.
