A Rainbow All Around Me is the follow-up to Sandra and Myles Pinkney's Shades of Black Shades of Black is a community organisation in the Handsworth area of Birmingham, England, formed after the Handsworth riots in the mid 1980s, extending from the 1990s to work in other deprived areas including Stechford. , which won the 2001 NAACP NAACP
 in full National Association for the Advancement of Colored People

Oldest and largest U.S. civil rights organization. It was founded in 1909 to secure political, educational, social, and economic equality for African Americans; W.E.B. Du Bois and Ida B.
 Image Award for outstanding literary work for children. The husband-and-wife team's latest project is a beautiful picture book that celebrates multiculturalism and diversity. Each page depicts a blissfully animated child engaged in colorful, lively activity: donning a bright yellow slicker, tap dancing in a black tuxedo and top hat, or striking a pose in blue denim. The accompanying text, poetic and upbeat, illustrates the emotional response that a particular color might elicit e·lic·it

Just as kids may have a variety of emotional responses to certain colors, they may also experience a wide range of emotions when encountering kids of different hues and cultures. A Rainbow All Around Me teaches kids to appreciate the uniqueness in every one and every culture, just as they appreciate the uniqueness of every color under the rainbow. The book also prompts children to think about who they are, their culture, and how people respond to them.
