A Pesticide-Free Treatment for Lice.

Often, the pesticide cure turns out to be worse than the lice infestation. Many children have become sick from the treatments, which believed to have led to learning disabilities, physical impairment (such as cancer and blindness), and even death.

Meanwhile, although the pesticides are causing harm to humans, lice are gradually becoming immune to the conventional methods extermination.

As an alternative, Heartland Products is offering a new, nontoxic, pesticide-free enzyme solution designed to eliminate head lice, body lice, scabies scabies (skā`bēz), highly contagious parasitic skin disease caused by the itch mite (Sarcoptes scabiei). The disease is also known as itch. , and crabs. This solution, called Lice ArrestTM, contains a combination of enzymes, including protease, lipase lipase (lī`pās), any enzyme capable of degrading lipid molecules. The bulk of dietary lipids are a class called triacylglycerols and are attacked by lipases to yield simple fatty acids and glycerol, molecules which can permeate the membranes , cellulase cel·lu·lase

, and amylase amylase (ăm`əlās'), enzyme having physiological, commercial, and historical significance, also called diastase. It is found in both plants and animals. Amylase was purified (1835) from malt by Anselme Payen and Jean Persoz. . Lice Arrest eliminates most insects without harm to humans, animals, or the environment.

The enzymes cause the exoskeletons of the bugs to become "unglued" and fall apart. In a way, the solution "digests" the insects. Lice Arrest also loosens the eggs and nits, which fall easily away instead of hatching into more insects.

Lice will not become immune to the enzymes in Lice Arrest; the same enzymes are already present in their systems (to aid in the growing and molting molting, periodical shedding and renewal of the outer skin, exoskeleton, fur, or feathers of an animal. In most animals the process is triggered by secretions of the thyroid and pituitary glands.  processes)--just not in such large doses. To build resistance to Lice Arrest, the lice would have to become immune to themselves.
