Alerce is a Chilean town in the communes of Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas in Llanquihue Province, Los Lagos Region.

In July, Chile created its own Yosemite -- Pumalin Park, a 700,O00-acre tapestry of land that sweeps from coastal fjords to snow-topped Andean peaks.
