. But the club saw him only as a golfer, and that made all the difference.

``A lot of pros around don't like to work with kids,'' said Heilbron, who has been in the club for two years. ``There's a presumption A conclusion made as to the existence or nonexistence of a fact that must be drawn from other evidence that is admitted and proven to be true. A Rule of Law.

``It's difficult to get a lot of golf pros to start junior programs because you have to have so much patience,'' Brown said. ``What you tell a kid sticks with them and you need to be honest and tell them the truth.''

Brown attributes the full access provided his students by course owner Chris Jones as being a major factor in the program's success.

Brown has different levels of instruction. In order to get into the intermediate program, golfers must pass a rules and etiquette etiquette, name for the codes of rules governing social or diplomatic intercourse. These codes vary from the more or less flexible laws of social usage (differing according to local customs or taboos) to the rigid conventions of court and military circles, and they  exam. He plans to hold 8-10 tournaments this year.

``Mike really encourages the kids and gives them a lot of confidence,'' said Sandy Belger, whose 17-year-old son, Stephen, is in the program. ``He pays so much attention to them and is really good about telling them that they're doing well. . . . The kids all seem to really love the game.''

Heilbron won the 18-hole division of the club's first annual Junior Adult Golf Tournament June 30.

``I don't want to be looked upon as a hearing-impaired golfer who won an event. I want to be seen as a golfer who won a junior event,'' Heilbron said. ``People say, `He's deaf and won the event,' but that really has nothing to do with it. The fact is I worked really hard to win.''

Ultimately, Heilbron dreams of playing on the pro tour or becoming a golf pro who works with juniors.

``We have to have people to pass on the game,'' Heilbron said. ``Juniors are not frowned upon Frowned Upon is an intergender comedy duo made up of Devon T. Coleman and D'Arcy Erokan. ``There's multirace people, people from different backgrounds and ages. I hope that keeps up because this game is good enough for anyone to enjoy.''

Brown encouraged Heilbron from the beginning and his patience has paid off.

``I started teaching Pete about three years ago. At times he wanted to give up because his friends were farther advanced. . . . I focused on the good things and was patient with his developmental stages and have shaped him into a very good golfer,'' said Brown, who recently hired Heilbron for a job in the club's pro shop.

Heilbron has also done a lot for Brown. He recruited many football and basketball players from his school into the program and donated do·nate

many clubs to Brown for use in the program.

``Club sales is definitely a problem,'' Heilbron said. ``Brand new clubs are very expensive and tough for a lot of people to afford.''

Brown has tried to raise revenue through the sale of shirts and hats with the club name and logo. He also is seeking to increase membership to 500.

``Companies are starting to realize that kids can stay out of trouble and from doing what they're known to do by playing golf,'' Heilbron said. ``On a course, there's not many ways to get in trouble.''
