Glendale Adventist Medical Center is a sister institution of Loma Linda University Medical Center and is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist hospital system.  celebrated on Sunday the first hospital building completed under a federal earthquake replacement program - its $26 million maternity services and outpatient surgery Outpatient Surgery, also referred to as ambulatory surgery or same-day surgery, is surgery that does not require an overnight hospital stay. The term “outpatient” arises from the fact that surgery patients may go home do not need an overnight hospital  center.

With a ``sneak preview'' bash that featured music, clowns, puppeteers, a petting zoo and a carnival menu of pretzels, nachos, hot dogs and churros, hospital officials cut the ribbon on the new four-story facility and welcomed the community for tours.

The Maternity & Outpatient Surgery Center will open later this month, hospital spokeswoman Alicia Gonzalez said.

Located between the main hospital building and the Physicians Medical Terrace, the surgery center will offer new moms spacious rooms with spectacular third- or fourth-floor views of downtown Glendale, freeways and mountains.

With special beds that can be pulled apart to become birthing beds and then reassembled, moms will be able to undergo labor, deliver their babies and spend their recovery time all in the same room without having to change beds.

And, Gonzalez explained, ``Dads are welcome to spend the night. There's a chair in there that reclines into a bed. It's really neat.''
