A PASSION FOR DOLLS.

Tanny Hilliard never grew up.

The 47-year-old Lancaster native has been making and collection dolls for more than 18 years - a passion she traces to her childhood.

``I never had enough of them when I was a child,'' Hilliard said. ``Most of the doll makers Doll maker may refer to:

 are little girls at heart who never grew up.''

Her love of porcelain dolls came from seeing little girls in movies with the finely crafted dolls.

``When I was very little I always wanted a porcelain doll. I always wished and dreamed I would have one,'' said Hilliard, an organizer of this weekend's Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. ``My favorites My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. They released two CDs: Love at Absolute Zero and Happiest Days of Our Lives. My Favorite broke up on September 14, 2005, when singer Andrea Vaughn left the band.  are ones with painted eyes,'' Hilliard said. ``When you paint the eyes there's a lot of detail to it and when you're done they look like glass eyes.''

The first doll Hilliard made was an antique reproduction of a baby doll that was accidentally broken by one of her seven children.

The Lancaster resident now has more than 40 dolls, including porcelain dolls, Barbies and figures made by other doll makers.

``A lot of them I've made and I have other dolls that I like,'' Hilliard said. ``I have a couple of dolls that people have made that I like. The majority of them are my dolls.''

Hilliard has been involved with the Antelope Valley Dolls, Bears and Miniatures Show since its inception five years ago. For the past four years, she has been a competition chairwoman.

Hilliard and co-chairwoman Georgeen Sagray are in charge of getting judges from outside the area for the show.

This year's show adds composition dolls, made from a plastic-type substance that is poured into a mold, similar to dolls of the '20s and '30s.

Last year's show drew 250 entries of teddy bears, reproduction dolls, modern and antique dolls, and original sculpted sculpt

This year's competition has dolls coming from Australia and states as far as New Hampshire New Hampshire, one of the New England states of the NE United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts (S), Vermont, with the Connecticut R. forming the boundary (W), the Canadian province of Quebec (NW), and Maine and a short strip of the Atlantic Ocean (E).  and North Dakota North Dakota, state in the N central United States. It is bordered by Minnesota, across the Red River of the North (E), South Dakota (S), Montana (W), and the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba (N). .

``Most people love dolls and even if they don't collect dolls they will probably enjoy seeing the dolls,'' Hilliard said. ``The dolls are just wonderful.''

The Antelope Valley Dolls, Bears and Miniatures Show runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds n. pl. 1. same as fairground. , Challenger Hall, 155 E. Ave. I, Lancaster. The cost is $4 for adults and $3 for children and senior citizens.
