A New Era in PC Security: IN-DEFENSE Technology.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 1998-- IN-DEFENSE(tm), a total virus protection system for PCs whether stand alone, networked or connected to the Internet, was announced today by TEGAM International.

This proven product uses its artificial intelligence core and strategic logic algorithms to distinguish between viral and non-viral activity. IN-DEFENSE protects companies against viruses without anti-virus updates. This means measurable savings for organizations in time and money by significantly enhancing security.

IN-DEFENSE provides total protection by detecting viral activity, a key trait of which is replication. If a program begins to replicate it is a virus and IN-DEFENSE will stop it before it spreads without having to know the virus' name or "signature."

IN-DEFENSE possesses multiple barriers of protection. A small (10KB) memory resident module detects viruses in memory, which is critical for computers connected to the Internet and relying on e-mail. A `warp' speed checking system (4,000 files-per-minute) checks symptoms, activity and system integrity. User-defined vaccination files prevent attacks from "hacker viruses" that are specifically created to penetrate anti-virus products.

Virus scanners must have the signature of each and every virus in existence in their database to offer full protection. New viruses are constantly being created, between 3-7 per day. This flood of new viruses leads to the need for frequent updates. And, even if it were possible to have every virus in their database, encryption, morphing and file compression would deceive the scanners.

Today's best scanners have only 80 percent of all virus signatures in their database at any one time. This means that a PC using diskettes or e-mail or downloading files runs a 1-in-5 chance of an infection with scanner-based technology. A costly situation by any standards.

The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is $109 for a stand-alone PC with site licenses available for organizations. IN-DEFENSE is currently being sold in the San Francisco Bay Area through resellers and systems integrators. Widespread distribution across the U.S. and Canada will begin in the summer of 1998.
