Vincent Dino, a local resident for 13 years, was appointed as an eastern Palmdale commission representative on a 5-0 vote Monday night by the City Council. Dino was one of three people who applied for the post. The others were not interviewed by the City Council, however, because one lives outside city limits and the other, outside District 4. Although only one qualified candidate emerged for the post, Mayor Jim Ledford said he still believes it was in the city's best interest to continue with the policy enacted in June 2004 to appoint planning commissioners by district. One commissioner is selected from each of four districts, each with roughly the same population, and a fifth commissioner is appointed at-large.
