The first CaliFlorida Bowl, matching high school football all-stars from California and Florida, just might upstage the annual Cal-Tex Shrine game this summer.

The star-studded California roster was announced Sunday, and considering the July 22 game is at the Rose Bowl -- not Cerritos College Cerritos College is a public comprehensive community college founded in 1955 located in Norwalk, California. It was named after Rancho Los Cerritos, a ranch that served prominently in the region in the 19th century. , like the Shrine game -- organizer Chuck Price said he expects 20,000 fans.

Quarterbacks Matt Cassel Matt Cassel [CASS-ul] (born May 17, 1982 in Northridge, California) is an American football quarterback for the New England Patriots of the NFL. Youth and high school career  of Chatsworth, running back Manuel White Manuel White (born July 2, 1982) is an American football running back.  of Valencia, linebacker Pat Norton of Hart of Newhall and lineman Travis Johnson Travis Johnson (born April 26, 1982 in Sherman Oaks, California) is an American football defensive tackle for the Houston Texans of the NFL. He attended Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California.  of Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks are participating.

"This game is going to be awesome," Cassel said. "I'm really excited. I think the whole atmosphere of playing in the Rose Bowl is gonna be a lot of fun and a great experience. It's unbelievable they're putting all this together for high school kids."

Running back D.J. Williams of De La Salle De La Salle is the name of several educational institutions affiliated with the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the Lasallian Brothers, a Roman Catholic religious teaching order founded by French priest Saint Jean-Baptiste de la Salle:
 High in Concord, roundly considered the No. 1 undeclared prospect in the nation, is also participating, along with defensive back Matt Grootegoed of Mater Dei of Santa Ana.

"We have the best players California has to offer," Price said. "I think this is the marquee all-star game, because Florida is a hotbed hotbed, low, glass-covered frame structure for starting tender plants. It differs from a cold frame only in that the soil is heated—either artificially as by underground electric wiring or steampipes, or naturally with partially fermented stable manure, which  for high school talent, and you can't beat the Rose Bowl on a summer night."

Where: Rose Bowl

Format: California all-stars vs. Florida all-stars

California coach: Gene Vollnagle (ex-Carson High head coach)

Local players: QBs Matt Cassel (Chatsworth) and Scott Vossmeyer (Crescenta Valley), RBs James Bethea (Cleveland) and Manuel White (Valencia), TE Will Svitek (Newbury Park), OLs Jon Clinkscales (Muir) and Steve Nevarez (San Fernando), DL Travis Johnson (Notre Dame), LB Pat Norton (Hart) and PK John Wall (Birmingham).
