Brazil, mother and creator of an award-winning new DVD that teaches young children "good behavior Orderly and lawful action; conduct that is deemed proper for a peaceful and law-abiding individual. The definition of good behavior depends upon how the phrase is used. ." Ann Brazil is available to provide commentary on a new nationwide survey that explores what Americans think about the importance of academics vs. character development in preschoolers.
WHO: Ann R. Brazil, creator of "TimeOut Tot: The Behavior
Coach" and the principal of Pausitive Programs LLC, is the
mother of three -- a son 18, who is mildly retarded, a
daughter in middle school and another son who is a leukemia
survivor and is now thriving in elementary school. Ann created
TimeOut Tot to help parents minimize the frustrations that can
come with child-rearing, so that they too can move on to the
joys of raising their children.
A former home entertainment merchandising and marketing
executive, Ann graduated from UCLA in 1979 with a B.A. in
design. When her first-born son was diagnosed, she took an
extended leave of absence to understand his disabilities and
learning style, and then find a school program to meet his
special needs.
This quest turned into an 18 year-study in early childhood
development. During this time, Ann has consulted with numerous
child psychologists, behaviorists, speech pathologists and
neurologists. She spent hundreds of hours in the classroom
with mainstream and special education children. Her research
and "hands on" experience resulted in an in-depth
understanding of early childhood misbehavior. Ann shares this
with parents and caregivers and their children in her new
award-winning DVD.
WHAT: The survey:
Pausitive Programs has released a new nationwide consumer
survey indicating that Americans place more emphasis on
academic pursuits than on character development (37 percent to
31 percent), even for preschool children. At the same time,
the survey of 1,000 consumers -- conducted by market research
firm Synovate -- shows a population struggling to get the
balance right. The survey announcement is available at
www.businesswire.com.
Ann Brazil on the record:
"It is my hope that we can help push the pendulum away from
academic extremes we have seen develop in recent years while
we've paid less attention to character development. Our survey
shows that a substantial portion of the population shares
these sentiments: emotional intelligence has been an
undervalued predictor of success in life, when compared to
intellectual ability."
TimeOut Tot:
"TimeOut Tot: The Behavior Coach" is an award-winning
interactive DVD that teaches good behavior. The star
character, a friendly neighborhood squirrel puppet, gently
communicates with story and song, teaching right from wrong
through visually simulating six different common misbehaviors
in children. TimeOut Tot is the recipient of both a Parents'
Choice Award and a Dove Foundation Seal of Approval.
