Invitational golf competition held annually since 1934 at the Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Ga., U.S. One of the world's most prestigious golf contests, it comprises 72 holes of stroke play (the player with the lowest score wins). at Sunderland's Seaburn Centre. Gateshead-based Smith (pictured right) beat Andy Trott (Northants) three games to one in the final. However, he failed to make it a double when he and Neil McMaster were runners-up in the over-40 men's doubles final. Northumberland players did well in the consolation events. Jim Stamas and Karen Henry were respective winners of the men's and women's over-40 consolation singles. Runners-up were Rod Roberts (over-50 men's consolation) and Pauline Long (both over-50 and over-60 women''s consolation). GEOFF Salter was selected to represent Scotland in the over-60s singles at the Six Nations tournament in the Isle of Man Noun 1.
