COUNTRYSIDE: Tom Tabor's article "Isn't it time you started reloading your own ammo?" was excellent. However, I thought I would share with your readers that there is an even more economical way to get started in reloading.

There is a tool known as a "Lee Loader" which is fully capable of reloading one size of rifle or handgun cartridge. This single tool kit will extract the old primer, resize the case, insert a new primer, measure the powder, and insert a new bullet. It is slow, because it only does one operation at a time. However, this little tool kit can be purchased for as little as $14.95, which is actually less than the cost of a single box of centerfire rifle ammunition. You will still need to supply your own powder, primers, and bullets, and exercise due caution in following directions; however, for someone who does not do a lot of shooting, in my opinion, this is the way to go. Plus, you can get these little kits in some of the more unusual calibers that are sometimes encountered in the surplus firearms market. When you are reloading some Swedish or Russian ammo, for example, you will really be saving a lot. And if you only use it for an hour or two, the Lee Loader has paid for itself.
