It is also a name for the Egyptian cobra (Naja haja). ) market, has chosen Marimba's Castanet(R) to enhance its software management infrastructure for deploying, hosting, and managing applications and services over the Internet. Castanet's management infrastructure software delivers increased operational efficiencies, subscription management, and custom branding capabilities to lower Telecomputing's total cost of management, maintenance, and support for its hosted application services.

"Marimba's Castanet provides an ideal software infrastructure to deliver these services to our clients," said Jostein Eikeland, president and founder of Telecomputing Inc. "It's almost as if Castanet was designed specifically for this purpose, long before the ASP market materialized. Castanet allows us to realize a set of operational efficiencies, scalability, and control over our hosted applications environment. In addition, we can leverage the Castanet product to promote and extend the Telecomputing brand."

Under the terms of the agreement, Telecomputing will utilize Castanet as a component of its Telecomputing Command System (TECOS(R)) environment. TECOS, developed by Telecomputing, and in operation for over two years, functions as an efficient, reliable software infrastructure across all of its back-end NT servers.

Castanet will be used within TECOS to distribute, manage, and maintain applications, services, and content for both customers of Telecomputing and for Telecomputing's internal server farms. Castanet was selected based upon the product's built-in security features, bandwidth efficiency The introduction to this article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter.

, scalability, and custom branding capabilities.

"As a long-standing ASP, we have witnessed the need to deliver applications across all computing computing - computer  models, including thin-client, Web-based, and client-side persistently stored applications," Eikeland continued. "Telecomputing guarantees to our customers 99.7 percent uptime, and that's why we need to partner with best-of-breed technology. Marimba provides us with the ability to deliver a branded desktop that serves as a launch pad for the wide variety of applications we support, accommodating all of our customers' computing models."

"Castanet has become a leading Internet Services Management platform for Fortune 2000 companies that are utilizing the Internet to streamline business processes and expand their market reach," said Tom Banahan, vice president of business development for Marimba. "The emerging ASP market is similarly focused on exploiting the economics of the Internet to host and deliver mission-critical business services. We believe that the ASPs which will thrive are those that fully understand the requirements for control, operational efficiencies, branding, and subscriber management which Castanet delivers. Telecomputing, with its TECOS infrastructure, clearly understands these requirements, and we are excited to see Castanet play such a critical role in the Telecomputing business model and architecture."

"Partnerships which provide a robust software infrastructure, allowing customers to leverage their computing investment and reduce operational costs, will be crucial to the continued growth of the ASP market," said Clare Gillan, vice president, Applications Research, International Data Corporation. "Telecomputing and Marimba recognized this early on and are providing an integrated solution that works across multiple computing environments."

"Customers want to take advantage of all of the work we've done to set up our services once they realize the magnitude of doing the same in-house," concluded Eikeland. "Although most customers project a significant savings over their current arrangements, the price is not the only issue. It's the relief of taking a big IT headache away that is really the clincher clinch·er
