Lovers' holiday celebrated on February 14, the feast day of St. Valentine, one of two 3rd-century Roman martyrs of the same name. St.
 makeover last week from Lifestyles Interior Design and Construction of Westlake Village.

The makeover included construction and interior decorating work, including painting, cabinets, flooring, furniture and accessories.

The shelter at an undisclosed location in Simi Valley was established in 1978 to help families escape abusive Tending to deceive; practicing abuse; prone to ill-treat by coarse, insulting words or harmful acts. Each year, the shelter houses about 30 families, with an average stay of four to six weeks.

During that time, the shelter provides the families with individual therapy, support groups, children's groups, crisis counseling, coordination of doctor's visits, legal counsel, restraining orders restraining order: see injunction.  and possible financial aid.

The shelter receives the majority of financial support through state, federal and private grants. Women are referred to the shelter from social service agencies.

``Many of us take for granted that we have loving, supporting partners that cherish us on Valentine's Day, and we hope to bring a little comfort to the women and families that are not as fortunate as we are,'' said Eileen Gould, owner of Lifestyles Interior Design and Construction.

``We wanted to do something nice for women for Valentine's Day who haven't had nice things done to them.''
