Q I HAVE a large lump on my back, called a lipoma lipoma: see neoplasm. . My heart condition means it is too dangerous to have general anaesthetic to get it removed. Can it be done under local?

A A LIPOMA is a benign fatty lump that grows under the skin. Your doctor must have considered the risk of removing it via surgery was too great. Many ops can be done under local anaesthetic an·aes·thet·ic
