They're sent to a blackpainted isolation room where they must spend a day working alone to reflect on their behaviour and hopefully "strengthen their desire to meet expectations in future". In other words Adv. 1. in other words - otherwise stated; "in other words, we are broke" put differently if they don't like being cooped up they know what they can do about it. Draconian, perhaps, but it works. Few kids repeat their misdemeanours and surprisingly Ofsted inspectors approve of the scheme. So far so good. But it only takes one spanner to mess up the works and predictably it's been hurled by a disgruntled parent, Andrew Widdowson, who refuses to let his son Kieran be subjected to a day in a "cell" as punishment for helping to let down the tyres of another boy's bike.
