The season of food and wine festivals kicks into high gear around the middle of May in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, .

There are so many, most for terrifically worthwhile causes, that you could probably spend the rest of your summer weekends sipping and nibbling nibbling Nutrition The consumption of multiple–up to 17–'mini-meals' per day, as opposed to the usual 3 meals/day. Participants: 40 restaurants. Also various producers of wine, beer, champagne and soft drinks.

Entertainment: James Brown performs Aug. 9 to headline a continuous lineup on three stages of jazz, blues, oldies Oldies is a generic term commonly used to describe a radio format that usually concentrates on Top 40 music from the '50s, '60s and '70s.

Oldies are typically from R&B, pop and rock music genres.

Wolfgang Puck's American Wine & Food Festival Where: Universal Studios back lot, Universal Studios.

When: Sept. 28.

Costs: $175 per person, includes all food and drink tastes.

Participants: Major restaurant chefs from around the nation and 70 of California's best wineries.

Entertainment: Live band and dancing.

Beneficiary: Meals on Wheels n. 1. A program that delivers hot meals to persons, such as the elderly or disabled, who are confined to their homes and unable to cook for themselves; also, the meals thus delivered. Such programs are usually conducted by governmental or charitable organizations. .
