A LA CARTE : AND THE SEASON BEGINS.

Local restaurants often try to get into the winter holiday spirit as soon as Thanksgiving is over.

Many of them mark their enthusiasm with special events or foods. Hotels, in particular, traditionally hold ceremonies and special happenings.

Here are a few places with festive offerings worth consideration:

Antonio's

Address: 7470 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. .

Cuisine: Mexican.

Comments: This has been a haunt of the margarita and mole-fancying Hollywood crowd for more than 40 years.

Happenings: Tamales dulces (sweet corn tamales with cinnamon and honey), the traditional festive dessert of Mexico, and bunuelos (sugared cinnamon and honey-flavored snowflake-shaped cookies) will be served throughout the month beginning Saturday.

Crystal Ballroom/Beverly Hills Hotel

Address: 9641 Sunset Blvd Sunset BLVD is unreleased material and remixes by the rapper 2Pac. It was released on September 12, 2005 internationally and the United States. Track listing

Comments: The Pink Palace has been presenting its Christmas Carol Luncheon for more than five decades.

Happenings: It takes place Dec. 24. Tickets are $55 ($30 for children under 12) and must be purchased in advance. Santa and his elves, holiday carolers, candymakers, mimes, orchestral music and toy soldier brass bands provide the entertainment. The four-course meal includes a squash soup, salad, choice of three entrees and two desserts.

Lawry's The Prime Rib

Address: 100 N. La Cienega There are at least three places with the name La Cienega (from the Spanish La Ciénaga: swampland, marsh or bog):

 Blvd., Beverly Hills.

Cuisine: American.

Comments: Prime rib and the Lawry's side dishes always seems to be the perfect holiday occasion meal for Americans.

Happenings: Strolling carolers and festive decorations are a tradition at Lawry's, and the carolers began their monthlong stint here on Dec. 1. But remember, Lawry's is closed on Christmas Day.

Loews Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries.  Beach Hotel

Cuisine: American.

Comments: Plenty of holiday happenings every year at this resort hotel.

Happenings: Breakfast with Santa is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday and Dec. 19. A Hanukkah celebration in the lobby includes a candle-lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Maui Beach Cafe

Address: 1019 Westwood Blvd., Westwood Village.

Cuisine: Hawaiian regional.

Comments: Chef Mako mako (mä`kō), heavy-bodied, fast-swimming shark, genus Isurus, highly prized as a game fish. Also known as the sharp-nosed mackerel shark, it is a member of the mackerel shark family, which also includes the great white shark and the  Segawa-Gonzales has made quite an impact with his island innovations.

Happenings: A special holiday menu Dec. 21-23 includes Maui clam and ono chowder chowder, stew of fish or shellfish with potatoes, onions, and pork (usually salt pork), thickened with crumbled hard bread. The name chowder seems to have originated from the French word chaudière , ahi tiki Tiki

Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel

Cuisine: Contemporary continental.

Comments: The annual Christmas carol lunch event here is in its 22nd year.

Happenings: The big day begins at 11 a.m. Dec. 19 with a snowfall in the hotel's private driveway. Tab is $65 ($32.50 for children under 13). Santa (who will pose for photos), Dickensian carolers and costumed characters will entertain. Lunch and more entertainment follow.

Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey Hotel

Address: 4375 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey.

Phone: (310) 823-1700.

Cuisine: Californian-French.

Comments: The spectacular setting of the yachts in the marina gives this hotel a special significance.

Happenings: Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 20 in the Lobby Lounge, the kiddies may enjoy Teddy Bear Teas with their favorite stuffed animals, tales by Mrs. Claus, hot chocolate instead of tea, teddy bear cutout cut·out
