A KEY MATCH CRESPI WRESTLER ESPINOSA'S ARRIVAL SPARKS TEAMMATE FERNANDEZ.Byline: IVAN OROZCO Staff Writer ENCINO - Gary Espinosa doesn't take much credit for it. The Crespi High of Encino wrestler helped spark a change in teammate Gustavo Fernandez's career, but Espinosa insists he hasn't done more than compete since his arrival a year ago. Espinosa, a 130-pounder, reached the CIF (1) (Common Intermediate Format) A standard video format used in videoconferencing. CIF formats are defined by their resolution, and standards both above and below the original resolution have been established. The original CIF is also known as Full CIF (FCIF). He began to practice the sport at the San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina San Fernando (săn fərnăn`dō), city (1991 pop. 144,761), Buenos Aires prov., E Argentina. So when we come back to practice he'll ask me and I'll show him how to do the move. It helped him in a couple competitions.'' Fernandez took some of Espinosa's moves into last week's Upland Upland, city (1990 pop. 63,374), San Bernardino co., S Calif., in a citrus-fruit region at the foot of the San Gabriel Mts.; inc. 1906. Fernandez will try to continue his winning ways this weekend at the Ontario Tournament. ``Gary (Espinosa) took me under his wing,'' Fernandez said. ``He got me going. He really showed me some new things. We're really close. I can see a bigger change in him and me. Him coming to this school was a big thing for me. At first, he was quiet. Then I saw him wrestle, and then I knew he was good.'' Espinosa's advice has not only aided Fernandez on the mat, but also helped him make a decision about the sport. Fernandez began to doubt if wrestling was for him. He and teammates spend more than 20hours per week training. Fernandez broke through last year after Espinosa's arrival, winning the 140-pound Mission League title. ``I can see it now,'' Fernandez said. ``I know what to do. It's all coming together. I can feel my way through matches knowing what to do. ``In the past I used to let people get into my legs. People were shooting on me and they'd take me down. Odman said he expects Espinosa to challenge for the CIF title, reach the Masters Meet and flirt with qualifying for state. Odman also said he expects Fernandez to continue to grow, win the league title and medal in CIF. ``Gary (Espinosa) clearly has had an influence on Gustavo (Fernandez),'' Odman said. ``That makes our future look bright.
