A HOUSE THAT NEEDS A FAMILY; Just add some children to bring this beautiful hilltop home to life again.

IT comes as no surprise to discover that one of the owners of the stunning Maes y Rhyddid is a decorator and interior designer by trade.

For Denise Jenkins, 56, and her partner, lecturer Margaret John Margaret John is a Welsh actress.

She has been seen mostly on television, with credits including: Dixon of Dock Green, The First Lady, Z Cars, The Troubleshooters, Doctor Who (in the 1968 serial Fury from the Deep
, 54, moved to their home at Hafod Lane in Pontypridd eleven years ago when it was in need of some major restoration work.

Built more than 100 years ago for the manager of the local Ty Mawr mine, it occupies an imposing hilltop setting with panoramic coun-trysidviews and extensive grounds of two-and-a-half acres.

All the internal wood including the windows, doors, banisters and shutters were stripped back to their original Canadian pine by Denise over many months. "The wood was actually in very good condition because the layers of paint had protected it but it looks so much nicer now all stripped back to its original glory," said Denise, whose son lives in the annex an·nex

It took two years to carry out all the renovation work on the property which included installing new kitchens and bathrooms as well as rebuilding the chimney stack chimney stack

"I gave up work during that time and concentrated on the house as it was very time consuming but so worthwhile as it looks really beautiful now."

Outside the large grounds include a vegetable garden and well established borders and beds.

"The gardens look after themselves now, the borders are so packed with plants that there is no room for any weeds to grow.

"It's a beautiful house but it is nowgetting too large for us -- it deserves to have a family to live in it and bring it alive."
