A HEALTHY GERI RETURNS TO RACETRACK; IS FAVORITE TO TAKE MEADOWLANDS CUP.

Bill Mott is going to be favored to win a lot of money this week.

 on Saturday, he also has a great chance of winning the $750,000 Buick Meadowlands Cup on Friday night with Allen E. Paulson's Geri.

Geri, who has never finished out of the money in 10 lifetime starts, was made the 5-2 morning-line favorite for the Meadowlands Cup after 11 horses were entered Wednesday for the 1-1/8-mile race for 3-year-olds and up.

The 4-year-old chestnut colt by Theatrical drew the No. 2 post. He will carry 119 pounds as will second-choice Dramatic Gold.

Geri, who won the Oaklawn Handicap The Oaklawn Handicap is a race for thoroughbred horses run at Oaklawn Park each year. The race is open to horses, age three and up, willing to race one and one-eighth miles on the dirt. A Grade II event, it carries a purse of $500,000. , worked four furlongs in 49.1 at Belmont on Wednesday morning, a signal to Mott that the colt has recovered from a cough that had sidelined him since his second-place finish in the Hollywood Gold Cup The Hollywood Gold Cup is a Grade I stakes race for thoroughbred horses inaugurated in 1938 at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California. ``Geri, on paper, deserves favoritism,'' said David Hofmans, the trainer of Dramatic Gold. ``Though he has been out a little while, Bill Mott wouldn't run him unless he was ready to.''

Dramatic Gold, winner of the Del Mar Breeders' Cup Handicap on Sept. 8, drew post No. 9 and was listed as the 3-1 second choice. He will be ridden by Kent Desormeaux.

Since 1984, the Meadowlands Cup has showcased 23 Breeders' Cup starters who have appeared in 35 Breeders' Cup events. Both Wild Again (1984) and Alysheba (1988) were Buick Meadowlands Cup winners who also won the Breeders' Cup Classic The Breeders' Cup Classic is a Grade 1 Weight for Age thoroughbred horse race for 3 years old and older run at a distance of 1¼ miles (2012 m) on dirt. It is held annually at a different racetrack in the United States or Canada as part of the Breeders' Cup. .

November Sunset drew the No. 1 post for the Meadowlands Cup. Jose Velez Jr. has the mount on the 20-1 long shot who was assigned 110 pounds.
