The men were shaved July 26 by Kathi Jorgenson, owner of The Barber Shop in Lancaster. Their beards will be judged at 4 p.m. Friday in the Fox Sports 610 booth at the fairgrounds n. pl. 1. same as fairground. .

Among the contestants are a man who competed in the last Whiskerino contest in 1978 and another who was entered when he was a high school student.

``The only time Antelope Valley High School Antelope Valley High School is located in Lancaster, California and is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. It was founded in 1912[1]. It is located in the Mojave Desert.  students could have a beard was during the Whiskerino Contest. I didn't win, but I grew a beard in school,'' said Robert Beauchamp, who is now co-owner of the Carpeteria carpet business in Lancaster.

Harold Harris, of Stephenson Enterprises, was in the 1978 contest.

Other contestants are Barry White, co-owner of Carpeteria; Antelope Valley Ford employees Pat Smith, Travis Ballard, Edwin Carleto, Phillip Bonds, Kyle Murphy and Mike Sykes; Cactus School teacher Larry Lueck; Ralph Johnson

Smith, Antelope Valley Ford's used-car buyer, said his father participated in the contest decades ago. He remembers his father going to the barber shop to get shaved and wearing a badge to let people know he was a Whiskerino contestant.

The contest is sponsored by ClearChannel Radio-Antelope Valley, which owns five local radio stations. The men's clean-shaven photographs are posted on the Foxsports610.com Web site. Their bearded photographs will be posted there after the judging.
