The Radio Scotland

Radio Scotland [1966-1967] was an offshore pirate radio station broadcasting on 1241kHz mediumwave (242 metres), created by Tommy Shields in 1965.

This year we received a record number of nominations for ordinary people who have achieved the extraordinary.

From the little boy who saved his granddad's life to the sister who gave her brother a kidney, they are all remarkable.

Four of these unsung heroes will be honoured at the Glasgow Hilton and one will be named Great Scot.

Also up for grabs are Lifetime Achievement, Entertainment, Sport, Charity, Music and Business awards.

The Morrison's Community Champion 2008 will also be announced. And to celebrate Scotland's Homecoming, an award will be handed out to a Great Scot living abroad.

The ceremony is not just about awards. Proceeds from the event will be split between five charities.

This year's Great Scot has big shoes to fill as last year's overall winner was one of our most popular finalists to date.
