A Fully-Redesigned ThinWorld.com Announces Its January ThinMan: IBM's Dr. David McAughtry.

COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 1999--ThinWorld.com (www.thinworld.com) Thursday announced IBM's (International Business Machines Corp NYSE NYSE

: IBM - news) Dr. David McAughtry, Vice President of Marketing, Network Computer Division as its ThinMan for January.

Most computer industry analysts contend that thin client/server computing gained immediate widespread acceptance with the twin embrace of the technology from IBM with its network computers and Microsoft with its Windows NT, Terminal Server Edition.

Commenting on thin clients' advantages over PCs, McAughtry said, "Thin clients are oases of simplicity in an already-complicated work world. Typical employees no longer need to resolve computer glitches themselves. Information, more securely saved on muscular central servers, cannot be corrupted by viruses or incompatibilities because these devices have no disk drives. Theft evaporates with most thin clients since they are generally worthless when unplugged from the network.

"Perhaps best of all, users no longer need to campaign for the ultimate power symbol -- an up-to-date desktop computer (is there truly such a thing?) -- since their software is always current, and upgraded on the network instead of on every PC." McAughtry's comments can be read in their entirety at: (www.thinworld.com).

Discussing ThinWorld.com's first year of operation and its new look, Executive Editor Jim Dunk said, "With over 10 million hits, ThinWorld has become one of the leading sources of thin-client related materials on the Web. Partnering with Thin-Client Integrators and Manufacturers has allowed us to get the latest information out quickly. We developed our new release of ThinWorld from reader and partner feedback. We are very excited about the future of the Thin-Client Industry and will continue to provide the information our users have come to expect from the leading Thin-Client resource center."

The newly redesigned site is easier to navigate, has a cleaner look and feel and now has a database backend to greatly enhance the site's search capabilities. New sections include: Countdown to Year 2000, dealing with thin-clients and Y2K; Total Cost of Ownership Calculator, to allow users to gauge thin-client system savings over a PC-based system; and the TechForum.
