Written by Gene Cartwright, A Family Gathering is an extensive novel of tragedy, triumph, extreme hardship, bitter secrets, and one woman's long struggle to survive and overcome since a pivotal day in her girlhood. I have read this truly American novel twice. As an avid reader of quality fiction, I can say I have not been as moved by a story, ever. I understand Gene Cartwright's novel was a Pulitzer Prize Fiction nominee last year. A Family Gathering is a page-turner that took me on a journey few books do. I feel like I know every single character, especially Deborah, Aunt Rose, Matthew, and Gram D'Lena. The surprise was the role of former President, Bull Clinton. I have personally recommended it to every one I know. It has to be a movie, or better yet - a major network mini-series.

Rachel Bronte
