The River Nith (Scottish Gaelic: Abhainn Nid) is the seventh longest river in Scotland.
 in Dumfries, above, remained high after bursting its banks two days ago. Severe flood warnings were issued for the Tay and Tummel in Perthshire and the Forth Road Bridge was closed to high-sided vehicles last night.
