The Antelope Valley
 Fair opens Friday with country and pop music stars, carnival rides and attractions ranging from the unique Rural Olympics to high divers who plunge 80 feet into a 10-foot-deep pool.

Fair-goers themselves can bungee jump Bun´gee jump`

``Things are pretty well organized and ready to go,'' said Forrest McElroy, president of the Antelope Valley Fair's board of directors. ``If we have typical weather, our attendance will surpass what it has been for the last couple of years.''

Latino music will be featured Aug. 26 and Sept. 2, with performers every hour including Luis Arnoldo, Burning Daylight, Adela Fernandez and Aguila Negra.

New this year will be the Flying Fools High Dive Show. Six professional divers will plunge into a 10-foot-deep, 21-foot in diameter pool. The performance will conclude with an 80-foot high dive. A fire dive will be performed at night.

What fair would be complete without animals, so the baby animal nursery will return larger than last year, fair officials said.

Lancaster resident Freddy Valentino's mules will be on display at Freddy's Camp, four covered wagons and a chuck wagon pulled into a semicircle.

The annual Kiwanis Junior Livestock Auction will be held Aug. 30, offering cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, goats, rabbits and turkeys raised by local youngsters.

Last year members of the 4-H, Future Farmers of America, and Grange earned nearly $500,000 from the sale of their animals.

The fair opens Friday with a 3:45 p.m. ceremony that includes a low- altitude pass by an F-117 stealth fighter. Admission that first day is free until 5 p.m.

Regular admission is $6 for adults and $4 for seniors and children ages 6 to 15. Children under age 6 are admitted free. Presale admission tickets are available for $5 until Friday. Carnival wristbands for unlimited carnival rides are $12 until Thursday or $18 at the fair.

Stock car racing is a form of automobile racing found mainly in the United States and Great Britain held largely on oval rings of between approximately a quarter-mile and 2.
 on Aug. 31. On Kids Day, Aug. 27, admission is free to kids age 15 and under. Seniors and handicapped persons can enter the fair for free on Aug. 28.
