After working two weeks to perfect their performances, the Santa Susana Santa Susana can refer to several places:
  • The Santa Susana Mountains in southern California
  • Santa Susana Pass, running through the abovementioned mountains
  • Santa Susana Field Laboratory, near Los Angeles, a test facility for rockets and (formerly) nuclear reactors

Second-grade teacher Rita Bennett said the visit was a way to teach the children the joy of giving.

``I felt this would be a way for them to give and not focus on getting,'' Bennett said. ``By the simple gift of song and literature, they brightened someone else's life.''

Many long-term patients are not paid regular visits from family or friends, said Rhonda Harper, the unit's activity director. The oldest patient is 101. Some are paraplegic paraplegic /para·ple·gic/ (-ple´jik)

She said the students' invaluable gift is something people should give year-round.

``When someone shows they care, these patients become more alive - their eyes light up, they smile,'' Harper said. ``It brings so much joy to them. I wish people would realize just how much this means to them. This is not something they need just during the holidays.''

Bennett hopes the youngsters gained a better understanding of what growing old can be like.

``Life can be changed by sickness, age and health problems,'' Bennett said. ``Hopefully, this taught them to be thankful thank·ful
