A DIFFERENT KIND OF TEEN FLICK NOHO FESTIVAL SPOTLIGHTS YOUNG FILMMAKERS.

As the summer movie season kicks into gear, Hollywood studios will once again try to lure teenage filmgoers to theaters. But Hollywood is a lot less interested in teenage filmmakers.

But Robin Saban, founder of the International Student Film Festival Hollywood in North Hollywood, is focusing on young filmmakers after scouring the more than 2,000 film festivals worldwide and finding very few that offered more than a subcategory slot to young filmmakers.

Besides its annual competitive festival in November, ISFFH presents a Film Night the last Friday of the month at Theatre Hub in the NoHo Arts District.

Saban is impressed by many of the student films he has seen.

``What I'm surprised about is to receive some good stuff from junior and high school students,'' Saban said.

Growing up computer and technologically literate gives today's students an advantage over past generations. Saban said that while still utilizing traditional storytelling, they're much more into using special effects and animation.

``These junior and high school kids use digital (video cameras),'' Saban said. ``(They) are savvy in manipulating the editing system to make their films. (It's) amazing what comes out of their brains and how they see the world today.''
